Most precision manufacturers pick a lane. A shop that grinds medical guidewires to a tolerance of plus or minus one ten-thousandth of an inch typically doesn’t also machine flight-critical components for a space exploration program. The skill sets look related on paper. In practice, the customers, the certifications, and the failure consequences are different enough that almost nobody builds both capabilities under one roof.

**John Shegda**, CEO of [**KMM Group**](https://kmmgrp.com/), runs a company that did exactly that.

Based in Hatboro, Pennsylvania, KMM Group was formed by integrating three companies with more than a century of combined precision manufacturing history: KV Inc., M&S Centerless Grinding, and Meron Medical. The result is a single shop that holds ISO 13485 medical device certification, AS9100D aerospace certification, ITAR registration, and an ISO Class 8 cleanroom — and runs ultra-precision machining and grinding for MedTech, aerospace, defense, space exploration, and high-tech customers side by side.

## One Accountable Partner Instead of Three Specialty Shops

For an OEM with a part that requires both tight-tolerance machining and centerless grinding, the conventional path is to qualify two or three vendors and manage the handoffs between them. Every handoff is a place where traceability can break down and tolerance stack-up can creep in.

> “The integration gives customers one accountable partner for highly complex precision manufacturing,” Shegda said. “We can support milling, turning, centerless grinding, EDM, cleanroom assembly, and inspection under one quality system, which reduces handoffs, protects traceability, and helps control tolerance stack-up. For medical, aerospace, and other failure-intolerant programs, this integrated approach is a significant risk reduction.”

That single-system approach is the foundation of what KMM calls its **Boutique CMO** model — positioning the company as a contract manufacturer with the technical depth of a large player and the responsiveness of a small one. It is also, in practice, the company’s least obvious and most defensible advantage. A guidewire grinding line and a space exploration machining cell rarely sit in the same building. At KMM, they sit in the same quality system.

## Sub-Micron Tolerances Where Every Variable Matters

KMM’s grinding capability includes corewire and guidewire work down to diameter tolerances of plus or minus 0.0001 inches, with ground length tolerances to plus or minus 0.005 inches across wire lengths exceeding fifteen feet. On the machining side, the company runs multi-axis CNC milling, wire and RAM EDM, Swiss screw machining, and micro-machining for components that leave essentially no margin for process variation.

> “Ultra-precision is where every variable matters,” Shegda said. “We are often working in tolerance ranges where machine condition, thermal stability, material behavior, inspection strategy, and operator experience all affect the result. This requires a disciplined process built around control, repeatability, and verification. It’s a different category of work entirely.”

That discipline shows up in KMM’s published case studies, including a project grinding a multi-eccentric shaft for a space-related compressor prototype — five eccentric features machined to ultra-tight tolerances with minimal margin for error. In a separate case, a MedTech innovator facing escalating guidewire defects from an existing supplier turned to KMM to restore production stability during a period of growing demand.

## Components Where Failure Is Never an Option

KMM’s aerospace and space exploration customer base includes Tier 1 suppliers who rely on the company for 99.7 percent quality achievement and 99 percent on-time delivery. The parts themselves tend to be small, highly engineered, and unforgiving of error.

> “Many of the components we produce are small, highly engineered, and unforgiving,” Shegda said. “That includes specialty bearings, precision shafts, and critical mechanical components used in aerospace and space-related applications where failure is never an option. Every part is manufactured with a focus on performance, documentation, and consistency from the first operation through final inspection.”

That same standard of documentation and consistency carries across KMM’s industries served, which span [**MedTech**](https://kmmgrp.com/industries-served/medtech/), [**space exploration**](https://kmmgrp.com/industries-served/space-exploration/), [**aerospace**](https://kmmgrp.com/industries-served/aerospace/), [**defense**](https://kmmgrp.com/industries-served/defense/), and [**high-tech**](https://kmmgrp.com/industries-served/high-tech/) manufacturing. The company’s customer roster includes recognizable names in both medical devices and industrial technology, a mix that reflects how unusual the dual-market positioning actually is in contract manufacturing.

## Four Years on the Inc. 5000 Regionals List, With No Outside Funding

KMM Group has made the [**Inc. 5000 Regionals: Northeast**](https://www.inc.com/profile/kmm-group) list four consecutive years — a growth track record built entirely without third-party investment.

> “It says we earn growth by solving hard manufacturing problems and delivering consistently over time,” Shegda said. “We have remained focused on long-term customer outcomes and building lasting relationships through reliable performance and technical expertise.”

That growth has come alongside physical expansion. KMM completed a major new facility build-out in Hatboro to support its precision machining and grinding lines, and the company has continued to add advanced equipment — including 5-axis milling, 10-axis Swiss machining, and hybrid centerless grinding — to its [**machines and materials**](https://kmmgrp.com/machines-and-materials/) roster.

## What’s Next for KMM Group

Looking toward the back half of 2026 and into 2027, Shegda says the company’s priorities are about deepening what already works rather than chasing a new direction.

> “Our focus is on strengthening the capabilities that make KMM valuable to customers with complex, high-precision programs,” Shegda said. “That includes expanding aerospace and space exploration relationships, investing in additional advanced manufacturing capacity, and deepening the way our teams collaborate across disciplines. The goal is to maintain our position as the precision machining partner customers call for their toughest challenges.”

For OEMs that have struggled to find a single supplier capable of handling a part that crosses between micro-tolerance grinding and complex multi-axis machining, KMM’s combination of certifications and equipment list is a short list of one. The company’s own homepage puts it plainly: if you are struggling to find a supplier for a difficult part, you are not alone, and you are in the right place.
